Rainbow Nation
Rainbow Nation
x
Acrylic, Charcoal, and Pastel on Canvas
"Rainbow Nation" is a distinctly South African expression, used to describe the diverse and multicultural country that emerged after apartheid - a nation made up of many cultures, languages, histories and identities. The idea was one of unity, reconciliation and finding strength in difference.
I was born in South Africa and left at 20, but the country has never really left me. Its colour, energy, diversity and love of pattern continue to find their way into my work, even after many years of calling Australia home.
This painting is my own colourful and joyful interpretation of the Rainbow Nation - a celebration of the many different threads that make up South Africa, and of a place that remains an important part of who I am.
