Charcoal, Acrylic, and Pastel on Canvas
“Ya Well” is a little piece of South African humour, capturing that familiar moment when you’ve heard it all, accepted the situation, and decided to carry on regardless.
Growing up in South Africa, I came to love the humour and character tucked into everyday expressions - those little turns of phrase that can say so much without needing to explain anything. Even after many years of calling Australia home, these familiar words and the feelings behind them continue to find their way into my life and work.
Ya Well is an expression of the contradictions, quirks and quiet resilience that are part of being human. Sometimes you question things, sometimes you accept them, and sometimes all you can do is shrug, smile and say, “Ya well.”
