Zebra Crossing takes its name from the South African term for a pedestrian crossing, and is one of those small pieces of language that has stayed with me, even after many years away.
The zebra-like markings amongst flowers, colour and movement, are a playful reference to home. I love how seemingly insignificant things - a word, an expression, a familiar pattern - can carry memories of a place and a time.
We take these things with us. They become part of who we are, often without us even realising it.
